helping you to manage positive change

Hypnotherapy and how it can help

The usefulness of Hypnosis has been acknowledged thoughout history and in many different cultures. Hypnotherapy is a process of working with people on issues which are causing them difficulty and using resources that each of us have in our unconscious mind.

Hypnotherapy is helpful for working on anything from nail biting, confidence, motivation, smoking cessation, slimming or pain relief. It can also help you reach your performance potential in terms of sport and studying.

The hypnotic state is very natural - a bit like the daydreams we have or the 'driving trance' we sometimes experience on familiar journeys. As the state is so natural, it feels comfortable, relaxing and calming to us.

During hypnosis the unconscious mind comes to the fore and the consious mind takes a back seat, although it is still present and keeping you aware of what is happening. The unconscious mind is an amazing resource which strives to keep us safe and well and holds a store for our memories, creative thoughts, emotions and senses.

The conscious and unconscious mind can be pictured a bit like an iceberg. The conscious mind is more accessible but accounts for less of our brain function than the much larger unconscious mind, which is like the part of the iceberg lying under the surface.

The process of hypnotherapy involves the hypnotherapist working alongside an individual to resolve agreed issues and acheive a desired change. At the end of the session people feel wonderfully relaxed and positive.

After the session it can take 12 - 24 hours (dependant on circumstances) for the change to 'embed' and become effective.
